Job Description

TruckingJobsInUSA is actively hiring experienced Reefer drivers for over-the-road (OTR) positions based in Illinois. We are a CDL driver recruiting agency placing qualified drivers with vetted, well-established carriers across the United States — and we have immediate openings for drivers domiciled in and around Chicago, Illinois.

This is a full-time Reefer driving position paying $66,000 - $93,000/year depending on experience, lane, and safety record. Home time: Out 2–3 weeks. We work with multiple client carriers, so once you apply our recruiters match you to the opening that best fits your home-time, pay, and equipment preferences — there is no cost to you, ever.

Pay context for Illinois: the statewide CDL-A average is $65,800, and the strongest-paying metros are Chicago (about $72,400), Rockford (about $62,800), Joliet (about $66,200). Illinois sits below the national cost-of-living average (index 96), so pay stretches further here — adjusted for living costs the equivalent is roughly $68,542. Wage trend is currently rising — Illinois offers top-tier trucking wages anchored by Chicago, the nation's largest intermodal hub. The convergence of six Class I railroads and major interstates creates massive freight demand.

Speed limits for trucks in Illinois run 65 mph on some interstates, with 70 mph on rural interstates. Tolls: Illinois Tollway system: I-88, I-90 (Jane Addams), I-355, I-294 (Tri-State), Elgin-O'Hare. I-PASS transponder required. Truck toll rates significantly higher than cars.

Fuel tax in Illinois is $0.467 per gallon diesel + federal (increased 2024), which matters if you are comparing per-mile offers across state lines. Inspection climate: High. Illinois State Police District 15 (commercial vehicle enforcement) is very active. Chicago area sees heavy enforcement on I-94, I-90, and I-80.

How it works: apply with the quick form below (under 60 seconds, no resume needed), one of our recruiters calls you to confirm your experience and what you're looking for, and we set up interviews with the carriers that match. You choose the offer that's right for you.

We require a minimum of 12 months of verifiable CDL-A driving experience for this role. If you have at least one year behind the wheel and a clean record, we want to talk to you.

Requirements

  • Valid CDL-A commercial driver's license
  • Minimum 12 months of verifiable tractor-trailer experience
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) — no major violations
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and DOT drug screen
  • At least 21 years of age (23+ for some lanes)

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive otr pay ($66,000 - $93,000/year)
  • Weekly settlements / direct deposit
  • Medical, dental & vision options through client carriers
  • Paid orientation and sign-on bonuses on select accounts
  • Late-model, well-maintained equipment
  • Dedicated recruiter — one point of contact, no spam
