NFI Industries Overview

NFI Industries is one of the largest privately held supply chain solutions providers in North America. Founded in 1932 and headquartered in Camden, New Jersey, the company operates over 4,500 trucks across dedicated transportation, drayage, last-mile delivery, and intermodal operations. NFI serves major retailers, manufacturers, and distributors with customized fleet solutions.

NFI's driving positions are almost entirely dedicated contract carriage, similar to Penske Logistics and Ryder. This means drivers are assigned to specific customer accounts with consistent routes, predictable schedules, and — most importantly — home daily for the vast majority of positions. NFI's presence is particularly strong in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and California markets.

The company's port drayage operations in New Jersey and California move a significant volume of containerized freight from ports to warehouses. NFI also has a growing last-mile delivery division handling white-glove residential deliveries for major retailers. For drivers who want local work with home daily schedules and don't mind the physical aspects of some positions, NFI is a strong option.

Home daily for nearly all NFI positions. Dedicated contract carriage, drayage, and last-mile operations are inherently local. Some regional accounts may involve occasional overnight trips, but this is the exception. NFI's home daily model is a primary driver attraction.

Training Program

NFI requires 1 year CDL-A experience for most positions. The company does not operate a CDL school. Some accounts may accept drivers with less experience. New hires complete orientation and account-specific training.

NFI Industries FAQs

What kind of driving does NFI Industries do?
NFI operates dedicated contract carriage (running consistent routes for specific customers), port drayage (moving containers from ports to warehouses), intermodal (rail container transport), and last-mile delivery (residential deliveries for retailers). Most positions are local with home daily schedules. The type of driving depends on which account and division you're assigned to.
Do NFI drayage drivers need a TWIC card?
Yes, NFI drivers working port drayage positions need a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card to enter port facilities. This is a federal requirement for anyone accessing maritime port areas. The TWIC application process takes several weeks, so start the process before applying if you're interested in drayage work.
How much do NFI drivers make?
NFI drivers earn $60,000 to $90,000 annually, with most positions paying hourly ($22-$30/hour) plus overtime. Earnings vary significantly by account, location, and type of work. Port drayage and some dedicated accounts in high-cost markets (New Jersey, California) tend to pay on the higher end. Benefits add significant value to the total compensation package.
Is NFI a good company to work for?
NFI is generally well-regarded for its home daily schedules, equipment quality, and benefits. The main considerations are that pay varies by account and some positions involve physical labor beyond just driving. NFI works best for drivers who prioritize being home every night and don't mind account-specific dedicated work rather than traditional OTR trucking.
Does NFI operate nationally?
NFI has a national presence but their densest operations are in the Northeast (particularly New Jersey and surrounding states), California, and select major distribution markets. Position availability is heavily dependent on which customer accounts NFI has in your area. If you live outside major distribution hubs, options may be limited.
